CHANGES IN MAILAGENT 1.2
In addition to some small bug fixes, these are the important changes between MailAgent 1.1 and 1.2:
- You can now send attachments with MailAgent Lite
- You can now request that MailAgent encode your message in
"Quoted-Printable" encoding. To do this, add the following header to
your message:
"X-Encode: Quoted-Printable"
This is handy whenever 8-bit characters might be sent in the body
of the message.
- Fixed numerous compatability issues with QuidProQuo and WebTEN.
- The number of "Lost" messages is now displayed in the startup email
message.
- Added a field to the configuration screen. "Local Server Name" is
the host name you want MailAgent to use when it introduces itself
to the SMTP server. Some SMTP servers will refuse to talk to MailAgent
unless it properly identifies itself.
MAILAGENT AND ANTI-SPAM SETTINGS
Many mail servers, such as Qualcomm's EIMS, have anti-spaming measures. These servers will refuse email when neither the recipient or the sender has an account on that server. Often, this will cause MailAgent email to be rejected.
There is an easy work-around to this problem. Set the "From" address of the message to any address local to your mail server, and use a "Reply-To" address to hold the "actual" sender. When the recipient replies to the message, the reply will be correctly addressed. Example:
<mail>
To: someone@foreignserver.com
From: webmaster@localserver.com
Reply-to: other-address@foreignserver.com
Subject: Example
This is an example of how to circumvent common anti-spamming measures.

Notes About the MailAgent Distribution
Depending on which product you downloaded or purchased, you may have a copy of MailAgent Pro or MailAgent Lite. The lite version of MailAgent is identical to the professional version except in the following respects:
1. It does not support encryption
2. It does not support attachments
3. It costs less
Running in Demo Mode
You can run MailAgent without a license key, but its use will be restricted to 15 messages, and the attachment/encryption features will not operate. After 15 messages, any additional messages will not be sent but will be saved in the "Lost Mail" folder. You may relaunch your web server software to get another 15 messages.
While in demo mode, MailAgent will append the following headers to all outgoing messages:
X-Comment: MailAgent 1.1 Demo
X-URL: http://www.netdreams.com/software/
When you enter a valid license key into the configuration interface, MailAgent will operate normally.
